This Saturday (30-March), I will appear as a forensic DNA expert on an episode of 48 hours. The episode will run at 10p (EDT) on CBS and Paramount+ (and available any time thereafter on P+).

EDIT: Here is the episode.

This is a very disturbing case. In early 2000, Bob Dorotik was found brutally murdered along the side of the road near San Diego. According to his wife and others, he had gone out jogging and never returned. Within hours, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department began focusing on his wife Jane as their prime suspect. Within a few days, she was arrested for the crime.

Jane insisted she was innocent, but the evidence looked very damning. There were blood stains in the bedroom, a bloody syringe in the bathroom, and questions that Jane couldn’t answer.

Her trial was a whirlwind of bizarre events. Her own sons testified for the prosecution. Her daughter was called in her defense, but pled the fifth rather than take the stand.

48 hours covered the trial in 2002. You can watch the episode here, or on Apple TV+.

In 2001, a jury convicted Jane of the murder of her husband. However, she maintained her innocence throughout her incarceration and worked tirelessly on her appeal. She insisted that there were inconsistencies in the investigation and that there was evidence that wasn’t tested. She challenged almost every piece of evidence. Her queries raised some important questions about how the investigation was conducted, how the evidence was handled and tested, and why the Sheriff’s Department refused to conduct additional testing that could have exonerated her.

After years of legal battles, a judge finally agreed to order a limited re-examination of the evidence.

You will not BELIEVE what the examination revealed. I am still shocked myself.

EDIT: Here is the full episode… Enjoy!
