Going to Comic Con? Come say hi!

This is just a quick note to say that I will be on a panel at San Diego Comic Con again this year and would like to invite you all to come say hi!

Once again, the panel is organized by the visionary Steve Broback, head of Dent the Future, an organization committed to advancing new and creative ideas throughout society, especially in technology. Given my frequent participation in Dent events, they also seem to be keenly interested in genetics and its future.

Our panel is about the science of Avatar: The Way of Water. Joining me will be Michelle Courtney, a team member on NASA’s mission to Mars; John Hildebrand, an oceanographer from UC-San Diego; Kirk Krak, A US Marine who trained the Avatar actors in free diving; and Gaelin Rosenwaks, an ocean explorer and marine biologist. Steve Broback will moderate.

The panel is on Friday night, 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. We are scheduled to be in room 25ABC, but you should double-check because room assignments are sometimes tweaked to align with expected crowd size.

My contribution to the panel will be to explain the fascinating genetics and physiology of the Bajou sea nomads, an ethnic group indigenous to Indonesia, Malaysia, and surrounding islands, who harbor specific anatomical and genetic adaptations to deep sea free diving.

If you are coming to Comic Con this year, come find me after the panel and say hi! -NHL
