Since publication of my book Human Errors, I have become sort of the go-to-guy for interviews about poor design in the human body. Recently, a YouTube media and news channel called Cheddar News produced a series of short videos about “Design Disasters” in the human body and I was the featured guest on some of these videos. The series seems to be finished now, so I thought I would collect the videos in which I appear and share them with you in one post. So here they are.

Enjoy!

They have many other videos in this series and they are very good.

  1. I just found out my cable includes Cheddar – who knew? But since you’ve included the videos here I don’t have to try and find it again on the guide! Thanks Nathan!

  2. It might have been nice in the video or in a footnote to mention the coadaptation of the inverted retina and tapetum lucidum. For many animals, seeing in dim light conditions are enhanced or even made possible thanks to the tl and without the inverted retina, as we argued in our publication (Vee et al 2022. The glow of the night: The tapetum lucidum as a co-adaptation for the inverted retina. Bioessays), this would not have been possible. So, rather than not having a clue as to why the vertebrate retina is inverted, one clue might be in the vertebrate retina-tapetum lucidum connection.
